Paddle with the Pros Series

Started for the 2008 paddling season our "Paddle with the Pros" returns for another year. We have a line up of great, internationally acclaimed instructors. All of the following courses are taught in small groups with emphasis on skill building, group dynamics and paddler safety.

Forward Stroke Clinic

Did you know you will go through the paddle stroke rotation over 3000 times every hour while kayaking? Learn to become a more efficient kayaker by fine tuning your forward paddle stroke, paddling will become more enjoyable and easier on your body

BCU 3 Star Assessment

Rob Avery

This one day assessment is a skills evaluation that gauges your current kayak level. The BCU skill assessment is one way of indicating your skill level; which is useful when you'd like to go on a group paddle, rent equipment, or just be "in check" with your skills. Plus you'll meet great people and learn even more from your expert instructor- Rob Avery.

Regular Classes

All regular classes are offered free of charge to any customer who purchased a kayak from Adventures Through Kayaking in either 2008 or 2009! Classes are $75 each for other participants. Buying your boats at ATK has its advantages!

Introduction to Kayaking

May 19, 2009 & June 14, 2009

Learn the basics and so much more. This course is designed to get you started in the sport of kayaking in an informed, enjoyable, and safe manner. You will learn how to get in and out of your kayak, how to launch and land, how to paddle and maneuver (paddle strokes), how to prevent capsizes and what to do in the event of a capsize. This clinic is highly encouraged for anyone that has interest in kayaking.

Paddle Strokes w/Bracing Techniques

May 31, 2009 & July 14, 2009

Become a more efficient paddler through fine tuning your edging and boat handling skills. This course covers 6 different types of paddle strokes and high/low braces.

Rescues and Towing

June 7, 2009

This clinic will teach you how to deal with real kayaking situations such as incapacitated paddlers, seasickness, and towing situations. When do you tow someone? What type of tow system is best? Who should do the towing? All these questions and more will be demonstrated with plenty of time for practice. This course will make you a more competent and confident paddler.

Intro to Navigation

June 21, 2009

In this intro course you will learn how to navigate your kayak and plan paddling trips utilizing NOAA charts, compass, and current charts. The use of GPS will be briefly discussed.

Paddling the Straits

May 10, 2009 & July 19, 2009

Learn how to analyze tide conditions, wind and current for optimal planning.


Introductory White Water

We offer a 2 day Introductory White Water kayaking Course. This will be taught on the Elwha River and at Crescent Beach. We are now registering for classes. Intermediate White Water

This class is for those who have mastered the basics and want to try stepping up their skills to the next level. This is a one day course on the Sol Duc River. Roll Clinic

Enjoy an introduction to a valuable kayaking skill - how to Eskimo Roll a kayak. These classes are held year round, so call for information or sign up anytime you're ready. When you 'get immersed', you'll be ahead of the game and your confidence will soar!
